In 1936, Nazi Germany swept every Olympic Rowing event except for 2, infamous Jack Beresford and Dick Southwood along with the U.S Men’s eight from the University of Washington were the only two boats to defeat Germany with Adolf Hitler looking on. Herbert Morris, Charles Day, Gordon Adam, John White, James McMillin, George Hunt, Joseph Rantz, and Donald Hume, coxed by Robert Moch surged past the fast starting Italians and Germans in the final 500-m in a display of true grit and determination to win Olympic Gold.
Weekly Quote
When man invented the bicycle he reached the peak of his attainments. Here was a machine of precision and balance for the convenience of man. And (unlike subsequent inventions for man's convenience) the more he used it, the fitter his body became. Here, for once, was a product of man's brain that was entirely beneficial to those who used it, and of no harm or irritation to others. Progress should have stopped when man invented the bicycle. ~Elizabeth West, Hovel in the Hills
